ISO 29993:2017 specifies the requirements for learning services beyond formal education, encompassing all types of lifelong learning such as vocational and in-company training, whether contracted out or conducted internally. These services involve a learning service provider (LSP) and are intended for learners and sponsors acquiring services on their behalf. The defining characteristics of such services are that they have clearly defined learning goals, undergo evaluation, and involve learner interaction. The delivery mode can be in-person, technology-mediated, or both.
The ISO 29993:2017 standard only applies to learning services when the learning service provider is part of an organization offering goods and services in addition to learning services.
Schools, colleges, and universities that offer learning services as part of a formal education system may find ISO 2993:2017 useful for self-reflection and self-evaluation.
